About Us

Your hosts are Gareth and Julie Rees and their three children Lauren, Hywel and Casey. As a family they are the fifth generation to farm this Radnorshire Hill farm. Gareth, Julie and their children all love the farm life. We are a working family farm spanning 350 acres, keeping sheep and cattle. We do get very busy at Lambing, Harvest, and Shearing, but always have time to talk about our farming activities or to show any children (or curious adults) around our farm. We occasionally use Lower Pentre farm buildings and you will sometimes see us travelling the fields feeding animals on the Quad Bike or Tractor. You may also get a glimpse of our three farm huntaway dogs which love to ride on the back of the Quad bike. The farm is a haven for wildlife and birds and most days a Red Kite can be seen flying overhead. We do however respect your privacy and keep the farm traffic and any noise to a minimum.

History

Upper Pentre Farm (where your hosts live) has been farmed by their family for five generations. They farm 350 acres of land and have sheep and cows. They have three huntaway dogs which help with the farm work. Upper Pentre farm was expanded in 1983 with the acquisition of this neighbouring farm Lower Pentre. The Barns at Lower Pentre were converted into Holiday cottages in July 2018.

Up until a couple of years ago both barns were used to house Animals and Feed including Hay. We decided to convert the building as most of the Animals are now housed at the upper part of the farm where our family home, Upper Pentre is located.

Photos of some of the building work undertaken on the Barn Conversions can be seen in the guest information. We think our Building team have done an amazing job and we were very pleased to present the Barn Conversions of Pentre Fach and Pentre Fawr as Holiday accommodation and welcomed our first guests in July 2018.

We are currently expanding the holiday portfolio and are currently renovating Lower Pentre cottage which is adjacent to Pentre Fawr and Pentre Fach. We should be ready to welcome guests at Lower Pentre cottage in September 2020. Together the three cottages can accommodate 21 guests, ideal for large extended family gatherings or close friend reunions.
